If the winds stops blowing...get in your cars and have a little fun!

Here's a short event list for this weekend (2/25-26):

Places where you can expect good food, music and a friendly Kristina B approved vibe:

Above the Canal: St. Georges Cafe, Sessions with Gary Cogdell & Friends. Friday and Saturday nights. This places will get a full fledged review coming up...one of my favorites! Great music and food! However, if you don't have reservations, you might go a little later when the dinner crowd thins out.

North of Wilmington: At the Bellefonte Cafe on Friday; New Sweden. Saturday brings Adelanted the Woz Trio and on Sunday, the always fun Betty and the Bullet (and the boy from Boston) for brunch.

Wilmington Proper: The Teletones will be at the Blue Parrot in Wilmington Saturday night!

Photography too!

Also beginning this weekend and running through March 6th, the 78th annual international exhibition of photographers at Arsht Hall. For info: http://www.wiepphoto.org/Resources/download/WIEPFlyer2011.pdf

And at the DE Art Museum, 2301 Kentmere Parkway until May 1: Fred Comegys Photographs.

Too much fun to choose from!
...but I'll make a valiant  attempt....

UPDATE! Reedy Point Players One-Act Play Festival

Congrats to Stacy Swed and the cast of Sure Thing for winning best play and best director of the first ever festival of the RP Players!

There were four great performances, including Sure Thing. The other three, Colorblind, Recognition and Playthings also deserve kudos for their hard work. Best actor went to Leroy Jett (in his first performance ever!) and best actress went to Ruth K. Brown.

I have had the pleasure of directing Ms. Brown in Steel Magnolias, and want to send out my congrats to her. Her performance in Colorblind affected me personally, taking me back to the horror that was Hurricane Katrina. I worked phones for the Red Cross during that time. Mostly what the affected folks wanted to do was talk. Ruth made me remember that.

The competition moves on to the next round. I, for one, intend to see how it all pans out when the best all meet on one stage at the Everett in Middletown.

What's on tap? Theater!

It's One-Act Season. I went to Chapel Street a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it immensely. This weekend sports two festivals...Wilmington Drama League (Wilmington) and Reedy Point Players (Delaware City).

I'm focusing on RPP for two reasons...I am a member and they are lesser known and need the help. This stalwart, bootstrap theater, with barely a budget to put on a performance, has managed to keep going and to keep pleasing audiences now for 10 years. Last year they participated in the larger arena of One Act competition and came away with multiple awards.

This year marks the first festival at the theater. 4 plays, and the audience gets to vote on their favorite. It's only 8 bucks, and you'll see surprising performances. As I am a closing performance judge, I'll be back with the results, but come out, have dinner in town at Crabby Dick's, and support local community theater!

Welcome to my state...of mind...

Once, long ago, and as far away as anyone can get while living in Delaware, I was a party chick. I knew the bands, I danced all night, I went to the beach and never got a tan.

As I said, long ago.

These days my knee hurts if I dance too much, my hair is no longer "aubergine" but a color I like better than all I have tried, a silver grey...and my tastes have grown as I have in years. These days, I want to savor my wine, taste my food, and hear the lyrics the band is singing...and the company I am enjoying. I want to see artists at work and local actors act their hearts out.

I am still a party chick. The party has changed, however and that is what I hope to share with you: my favorite gigs in the first state.

Let's all get up and sway to a tune.

Best,

Kristina B.
